There’s almost nothing more enticing than a hot meal on a winter day to stave off the cold and the snow. Fortunately, Idaho is famed for our many outstanding dining options and it’s often difficult to decide which of the dozens of delicious restaurants to choose from. Lucky for you, we have discovered that one of the best restaurants to dine at in Boise at Capitol Cellars. Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Capitol Cellars has found a way to balance an excellent ambiance with great local flavor. Nestled on 5th street in the historic Belgravia Building, any and all will find that this restaurant is guaranteed to satisfy.

On March 4th, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the congressional act that established Idaho as a territory. Capitol Cellar owners, Melinda and Skip Smyser, along with their daughter Logan, commemorated this day by opening their doors on March 4th, 2015. The idea behind Capitol Cellars was to create a place where fine wines from around the world and local Idahoan foods could meld harmoniously under one roof which embodied the importance of political thought. Both Melinda and Skip have served in the Idaho Legislature and the State Senate and now proudly operate Capitol Cellars—here they bring Idahoans together to celebrate the grandeur and history of our great state.

The menu honors many famous Idaho politicians, all the while tempting the taste buds and satiating hunger. Some of their most alluring options include the Steunenberg Salmon, which memorializes the fourth governor of Idaho, Frank Steunenberg, and the Borah Burger, named after William Borah, who served on the Idaho senate for over 32 years. Imagine stepping out of the cold and treating yourself to a Barzilla’s Black & Blue Prime Rib Cobb, loaded with avocado, fresh local tomato and onion, topped with blackened prime rib and fried shallots. This delicious meal honors Barzilla Worth Clark, Idaho’s 16th governor. They also create a different vegetarian special fresh each day.

Capitol Cellars ensures that nearly every food item on their menu is sourced locally to help sustain and grow the Idaho economy. The Smyser family understands the importance of buying local, and has carried that vision into their business.

They proudly boast an incredible array of fine wines to accompany any dining experience. They’ve compiled some of the most tantalizing wines found all around the world, from deep and decadent reds to light and crisp whites, Capitol Cellars has a wine for every pallet.

Being a business dedicated to business, Capitol Cellars graciously accommodates for special events, meetings, and all other gatherings. Their private dining cellar, The Caucus Room, can house up to 20 people and is the perfect location for birthdays, bridal showers, wine tastings, company meetings, or for just getting the family together over a nice bottle of wine and a hot meal.
